2020 Training this Fall

Hello Everyone:

At the beginning of this year, we saw a huge transition across the globe. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to take the precautions to maintain the safeguard of ourselves with many nations. Simple things like going to the store, going to the movie theatres, interaction of friends had a huge impact. We all had to make huge adaptations. Many people lost their lives and lost their jobs.

In this, it totally tests our faith of the unknown. Unknown of the future, what if this, vaccination that, Back Lives Moment, etc. I always say, the 3Ps, prayer, patience, and perseverance are what you need to strive forward. This roadblock is just temporary and will be cleared soon.

For the last five to six months, many of us have been training on top of the University of Alberta Education parking lot. I say it has been very uplifting and humbling. Training in all types of environments, running across some very interesting individuals, but ever so free. Especially in the last month, watching the sun set.

I remember a story Sensei Leonard told us during a clinic. There were two groups of students. The first group just trained on sparring. The second group just trained on kata. This training occurred for a whole year. At the end of the year, the two groups came together to spar. Which group did better? The group that did kata.

With this pandemic, I have embraced the kata ever so much more. Thank goodness with Leonard Sensei hardcore and immaculate training on kata, it feels better like an owl flying at night rather than a magpie looking for food.

The year is not over. Our lives are still moving forward. Make sure to maintain the faith.

Looking forward in seeing you in the dojo. Take care and God Bless.
